Underbelly - Can A Police Officer Become a Prostitute?

I have been watching the third series of Underbelly: The Golden Mile and so many people I know have said that there's no way that the main character Kim could be accepted into the police force when her previous employment was as a prostitute. The Underbelly series is based on real life incidents, people and places. The third series is situated in the heart of Sydney's Kings Cross area and sees cops, drug deals and night club owners all living out of each others pockets.

That got me thinking, the Underbelly series is based on real life incidents, people and places. The third series is situated in the heart of Sydney's Kings Cross area and sees cops, drug deals and night club owners all living out of each others pockets. The uneasy alliance is tolerated on the understanding that no one gets killed and everyone gets paid. Things start to go down hill when two police women join the police team. One is raped by the cops and the other, Debbie Webb, turns whistle blower but then the gravy train flows all the way to the top of the New South Wales police force and she is ostracized.

In the series Webb befriends the prostitute Kim Hollingsworth and one scene has them sunbathing nude on a Sydney beach. The two become disgusted with the corruption and work to bring justice onto the Kings Cross police and assist with the Royal Commission into the NSW Police Force. Hollingsworth quits the game and enrolls into the police academy. Soon after passing the entry exam she is asked to help some officers open up their own brothel. This is where we are today, Hollingsworth goes undercover to get evidence on the bad cops.

Could this really happen? Well the answer is yes. Kim Michelle Hollingsworth (born 1966) was formerly a prostitute, student police officer and undercover agent. She was however, dismissed from the New South Wales Police Academy for failing to disclose her past life. Her ten year long legal battle for reinstatement was ultimately unsuccessful. Thanks to the publicity surrounding Underbelly she has appeared in Zoo Weekly magazine. Now 44, she still looks totally stunning in a bikini and would still command premium dollars for her services. She's definitely come out on top after a tempestuous life in Sydney and now spends her time looking after horses on her farm.

To my question then, a prostitute cannot become a police officer - not in Australia anyway.

Unique Fundraising Events Are Fun And Profitable

A fundraising event does not have to be something new and different in order to raise a good deal of money. The bake sale and car wash are still successful fundraising activities. A unique fundraising event will probably generate a great deal of attention because it is unusual. The unique fundraising events should attract a great deal of attention, and this attention should translate into a lucrative fundraising campaign. A fundraising activity could be something that is very special to the group or a unique fundraising event could be found in a far away place via the internet.

There are many unique fundraising events, and someone looking for a special project might look at the talents of the group involved. A group of students working for new uniforms for their team might stage a special program at one of these events. For example, a group of young people in a drama might use their talents to put on a special presentation. This type of activity could generate a great deal of energy in the group. This group might even charge a bit more for a presentation of a dramatic production to raise funds.

Unique Fundraising Events Generate Excitement

A unique fundraising event can be advertised in order to attract the attention of the potential customers. People usually contribute to the ordinary bake sale or carwash, but these activities do not produce great excitement. A unique fundraising event will attract potential customers, but it will also encourage the people involved to use their mind to come up with something new and different. People will be very interested in unique fundraising events so these will probably generate extra funds because of the added interest in the event.

There are some unique fundraising events that each group should consider for their fundraising activities. Some companies constantly come up with unique fundraising activity to help their customers attract attention. Some of these companies have unique ideas ready to go so the groups will save some energy, and they can concentrate on sales alone. There are several books that have information about unique fundraising events. These include activities such as making jewelry or selling comfortable cushions for the hard chairs at events. A group will probably be most enthusiastic if they have a unique fundraising event so it will be easy to find volunteers for the duties of the fundraiser. An enthusiastic group usually makes more money, and they enjoy the activity at the same time.

Farmer's Markets in Austin

With the recent push towards local, sustainable eating, Austin residents are lucky to claim quite a few local farms. Many of these farmers bring their freshly harvested produce in to town periodically as part of one of the farmer's markets located throughout the city. Not just produce, Austin's farmers markets also feature locally made products such as cheese, tamales, breads, jams, soaps, and other handicrafts. With live music, entertainment for the kiddos, and an air of celebration, these bi-weekly events provide sustenance for the spirit as well as the body.

Austin Farmer's Market: With two locations, this aptly named market is held on Wednesdays from 4PM to 8PM, and Saturdays from 9AM to 1PM, year-round, rain or shine. A growers-only market, all of their produce and products are grown or produced within a 150 mile radius of Austin, and produce farmers make up at least 51% of their vendors. An offshoot o f the Sustainable Food Center, a local 501 (c)(3) nonprofit, the market is an important extension of their mission, to improve access to local, healthy and affordable food for children and adults in Central Texas. A unique feature of this group is their Chefs' Circle - a group of well known local chefs who periodically present cooking demonstrations at the Market. (Triangle Park, 4600 Guadalupe - 46th Street between Lamar and Guadalupe, AND Republic Square Park - 4th and Guadalupe)

Sunset Valley Farmer's Market: Claiming "The Spirit of the Farm in an Urban Setting" this weekly market is festival-like in atmosphere. With farmers, artisans, bakeries and restaurants all hawking their wares, shoppers are just as likely to get lunch as they are to get their weekly produce. Live music, face painting and inflatable slides and jumping structures make this an attractive destination for families. Held in the parking lot of the Toney Burger Center just east of Brodie off of Ben White, this weekly market is held on Saturdays from 9 to 1:00, year round, rain or shine. (3200 Jones Rd, Sunset Valley, TX, 78745)

Boggy Creek Farm: Although this market is held at, and features produce only from one of Austin's premier organic farms, it merits inclusion in this list due to its expansive offerings of things other than produce. Boggy Creek Farm provides local, organic produce to many local restaurants, and at their Wednesday and Saturday morning market, also offers local cheeses, breads, and other carefully selected products to the general public. The eggs from their free-roaming chickens go early, but the chickens remain strolling about to delight the kids, who can also take advantage of a small play area with farm-oriented toys. (3414 Lyons Road, Austin TX 78702)

South Austin Farmers Market: This small but tenacious market features local produce, and occasionally local products may be offered as well. Held on Saturdays, year round from 8AM to 1PM, they are located in the parking lot of El Gallo Restaurant on South Congress Avenue, across the street from St. Edwards University. (2910 S. Congress Ave, Austin, TX 78704)

The Entertainment Capital of the World

One of the most popular and talked about vacation destinations in the United States, and the world, is definitely Las Vegas. Whether you are a fan of gambling, or just want to visit a truly unique city, which offers many incredible options for entertainment and dining, Las Vegas should definitely be on your list for places to visit. Although it is most famous for its gambling institutions, it has so much more to offer to travelers of all kinds.

Located in the deserts of the state of Nevada, it's a true, real life oasis. For miles and miles around this city lie vast, seemingly lifeless deserts. Modern technology allows it to exist and flourish; water is supplied to this city through pipes and other sources. Because it is in the desert, Las Vegas has a very high year-round temperature; it can reach well above 100 degrees during the hottest summer months. This aspect makes it great lure to people from colder climates. During the winter months, many people from cold areas flock there to escape the freezing temperatures and enjoy some gambling other entertainment.

The Las Vegas strip is known around the world. Some of the most famous gambling places in the world are located along this renowned street. The MGM Grand is incredibly popular, as well as the Luxor with its instantly recognizable pyramid. The Excalibur is a popular casino and is shaped and themed like a colorful castle. If you are visiting Las Vegas and want to ride a roller coaster, try New York, New York casino; its roller coaster winds through the iconic skyscrapers of the Big Apple.

There is definitely more to the city than just gambling, though; this city is also very famous for being a popular wedding destination. It is very easy and simple to obtain a wedding license; wedding ceremonies here also tend to be very inexpensive. Therefore, many people run there to exchange their "I Do's." Many chapels in this city also offer themed weddings; you can, for instance, get married by Elvis Presley, if the mood strikes you.

Another example of popular, non-gambling attractions in Las Vegas are its famous shows. Siegfried and Roy were a very famous act that once performed in Vegas. Many world famous entertainers routinely set up shop here and perform on a nightly basis. Popular acts from Broadway often perform here, as well. If you are going to be in Las Vegas and either do not want to gamble, or are tired of gambling, taking in a show is a great way to spend some time.

Las Vegas also has a great nightlife; heading out on the town is truly unforgettable, thanks to its millions of brilliant lights. From many miles away, one can see the lights. It has to be one of the brightest cities in the world, and anyone who comes here has to spend some time on the streets at night to take in the incredible display.

Entertainment in Panama

Entertainment in Panama is top notch, and you can find it around every corner, down every alley, and at the bottom of every pint. For a good time, you've come to the right country. Weather you are being scraped from the bottom of a Chivas Bus at 4am, screaming madly for one of the 12 teams in the country's professional soccer league, or stumbling into El Café Azul at sunrise; entertainment in Panama is in no short supply and can be had at a bargain. This country is quickly becoming a hot destination for travel, kind of like the next Costa Rica and you can find a ton of options for going out and enjoying yourself.

Panama is very rich in culture, and finding entertainment in Panama is never very difficult. Because of the influence of the United States in the last century, many locals speak good English and therefore exhibits, menus, and performances are often in English. Over 10 museums are open in the Panama City area, most of which are centered in the Casco Viejo area. There is absolutely no shortage of bars, restaurants or great live music venues. On any given weekend, at least four or five locations will be featuring a live band, so your search for entertainment in Panama shouldn't be too difficult, especially if you are into live music. Panama City is by far the most cosmopolitan city in the Central America, and in fact for entertainment and nightlife even rivals Rio or Cancun. Wander down Calle Uruguay and you will be lured into any number of places, or stumble home through El Cangrejo and the same will hold true. Regardless of the hour, this city alive, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

If you are looking for entertainment in Panama City, and want to go check out the "strip" of bars, your best bet would be to head to the Calle Uruguay area. Home to such famous bars as the Londoner, People, Sahara, and Habibi's, this district truly has something for everyone. If you are just looking to grab a drink and hang out on the patio, make sure to check out Habibi's. If you are trying to rage all night, then do not miss Mystic or Moods. Unplugged is a good spot for live music, or if you time it right then check out S6is for an album release party-very plush. Starlight is a great spot for Karaoke, and their English/Spanish song book has something for everyone. Other hot spots include Moods, TGIF, and El Bambero.

Amador Causeway is another great area for nightlife and entertainment in Panama. Perhaps the most famous strip in the country, Amador causeway has a lot to offer. Play is more of a club environment, and Paya more of a down tempo and chill lounge. Two great spots not to be missed on the causeway. And if you are staying in the El Cangrejo area, then make a pit stop in La Taverna 21 for a down home Spanish style area, or La Terraza-the original gringo bar.

Entertainment in Panama is not limited to bars, however. The city's rich culture brings many famous musical acts to town, including Kenny G, Sean Paul, Don Omar, and many others. The Figali center, Teatro Nacional, Atlapa Convention Center, and Anayansi are some of the many great venues for events. Live theatrical performances are another way one can find entertainment in panama, including The Theatre Guild of Ancon and Teatro La Quadra. Plays and performances are often presented in English, so if you don't speak much Spanish then you still wont have any problem.

Are You Ready To Produce A Weekly Show?

What is required of someone doing a weekly show? (This article updated March 14, 2008, Friday)

First Steps: Before you need anything else, before you think or do anything else regarding your future weekly show, you need to know that the most important asset you have, more than any camera equipment, is your commitment to do a show that is available to be aired every single week of the year. This means that your show will air during holiday times; it will air during any family crisis times, and it will continue to air even in times when you are not physically able to tape another show for a few days or weeks. You must have that type of commitment to your show and to yourself so that your show goes on, no matter what. That is your biggest asset and your biggest stepping stone that leads you to have a successful weekly show. If you have serious doubts about your ability to commit to have these shows ready, and delivered on time, to the studio, then you need to reconsider your decision and perhaps continue to do specials for a while. There will be a time when you are ready and able to do the weekly show. Do not rush into it, but do it in your own time. If you have decided that you are ready to make this deal with yourself and with your studio, then trudge onward, be prepared, be alert, and be precise and on time as you journey into the adventure of weekly show spots on your own television program guide.

Do Specials First: First bit of advice that I would give to you is that you submit a number of specials first before embarking on the journey of doing a regular weekly show. That will give you hands-on training and you will gain confidence also. Lots of people ask about equipment. They ask if you need very expensive equipment to produce a weekly television show. That is a good question and the answer is very complicated. The key to producing a weekly show is more about organizing, creativity, and also about confidence. You cannot produce a weekly show if you have no confidence to do so. So perhaps your first lesson in television production (in the case of weekly shows) would be confidence 101. You have to know that you can do it and the only way you know that you can do it is if you finally admit to yourself that you want to produce a weekly show. Once you admit that you are free to accept yourself as producer and to go on to the very next step.

The next step is organization, but even more so, thinking about organization. Think about everything you will need in order to be successful at producing a weekly show. You need a host or co-host, or talent or someone who will be on air for you. Then you need a number of producers to help you out. (You will fare better in this area if you have already helped many other producers on their own shows). You need a plan. Perhaps writing everything down will help.

Some Organizing Tools: :

A notepad to write your creative ideas in.

A notepad or address book or organizing book to hold all of your appointments and show records.

pens, pencils, highlighters, sticky notes

Some artistic signs or posters (for the walls during your show); perhaps some books or other decorative items that make it YOUR show.

Folders and blank papers, some stationery and envelopes.

Those are beginnings. You do not need all of these to begin; These are just suggestions. You take what you can use and leave the rest of the information right there. One of the most helpful organizing tools that I have found are scan cards . They come under the listing of executive gallery online. These are little cards, about half the size of index cards and they are placed inside a folder or binder. Each of your projects (or shows) has one card. If your show is complicated, you might have a card for each section of your show . For example, one card might list all the producers who will work for the show and the other card might list the sequence of what will happen on the show. This system is quite comfortable to handle and it is a very useful organizing tool

What About Cameras? Notice, I have not even mentioned camera equipment yet? Well, you need to be committed and organized long before you seek out a camera. So organize your timing, your show, your guests, talent, hosts and everything in between long before you even think about cameras. Usually the Public Equipment office at the community access station will have all the equipment that you will need. I will write about cameras in another article that I will publish in the future.

Then, so what is your plan? Do you plan to do a weekly show by taping a show at the studio every single week? If that is the case, you will be there almost forever, between locating other producers and finding talent. This is a large, long and hard task. It is not impossible but it is most difficult especially for beginners. Do you have a better plan than that?

Combine Studio and Field Tapings: You can possibly shoot some shows in the studio and then shoot some shows outdoors. Many producers use this system. It gets things done and they wind up with a weekly show and plenty of time to do it in. So, you can plan to shoot twice a month in the studio, and if you plan right and are lucky, you can shoot both shows inside the studio on the very same day. Reserve two spots and tape two shows. As you get more advanced, if the staff permits and you have time, you might be able to tape three shows in one day. (This all depends on your regulations at the studio. Inquire with staff or ask for the manual. Do you plan to do field shows? If you do this, you will need to take the field course at the studio (unless you plan to use all of your own equipment). So, take the course or buy your own equipment. Now, you are making progress.

Develop Skill: t is my honest belief that if you have enough training in field photography, you can do a weekly show with a small, hand-held camera that is not too expensive. Of course, better equipment is always wonderful to use and to have, but if you must use an inexpensive camera, then do it, rather then hold your show back. You have great ideas, and good creativity, now go put it to work on your weekly show. If you hone your photography skills, your steady camera skills, your keen eye and your creativity, you can produce a show with minimal equipment, if that is your goal. To learn more about having and producing a weekly community access show, read some of my other articles. I will be writing more articles on this topic in the near future.

Equipment: Though it is not the equipment that does or finishes the show, having your own equipment will help you continue to have a weekly show. (When you have your own equipment, you can film some shows in the field and some in the studio). The way this helps you continue and maintain a weekly show is that you have your equipment with you at all times. You might accidentally happen across an unadvertised event that you can film. (Always ask permission to film outdoors in private spaces. Most times you are not permitted to film shows, concerts and things like that without express prior permission). In fact, in some places and during some events, filming without permission can be a felony or some other crime. That is why you see copyright notices all over creative works, movies and television shows. Be sure, when filming no private property or when you film during any official performances -i.e. concerts, that you have proper permission to do so. I will write about obtaining permission in some later articles. You can subscribe to my articles to be sure that you do not miss any of them.

Begin with Basics: If you do not have your own equipment and you are considering purchasing some, note that you do not have to buy the most expensive equipment there is. Basic equipment is fine for a beginner producer. Seriously, use basics to start and then decide whether you need more equipment to do more shows. Do not listen to anyone that tells you that you cannot begin with basic equipment. You can! You can purchase a small video camera (that uses mini-dv tapes), a monopod (not a total necessity but a nice addition), and with one more thing you are ready to do your field shows. (I will discuss that one more thing in another later article. I recommend having your own equipment if you are a beginner at doing weekly shows. The reason for this is that you will save hours and hours of time by using your own equipment. You will not have to reserve equipment to do shows, and that alone saves you weeks of time at the end of the year.

Start With Minimal Expense: You can begin with a camera that is under $400. That is correct. You do not have to begin with a camera that costs thousands of dollars. If you have a good eye, steady hand, and a monopod, you can begin for under $400. The key to good production is not always expensive equipment, but it is more attitude, eye, respect, creativity, and dedication to the direction that you choose. The key is persistence, using good goals and organizing skills, good networking, a strong faith, and more persistence. If you can manage those, you can make it in community access television without the major expense of high-priced cameras and other equipment.

Note About Minimal Equipment: In order to get by with minimal equipment, you need to have some experience in photography or some prior training. If you are coming into television production cold, with no art, background or production experience at all, it might be harder for you with the minimal equipment. I suggest that you read up on photography at the least, even if you have not been to photography school. Check out these two series of books, the Kodak series and also any and all books by John Hedgecoe. I highly recommend John Hedgecoe books because he takes awesome photos, but also is a great teacher. His illustrations, instructions, and everything else he packages in his books are well worth the money. If you cannot afford to buy these books new, look for them at garage sales. Most libraries will have at least one John Hedgecoe book. I have not yet seen a library that does not have one, two or three of them. I believe he is the best that a beginner can learn from, and professionals too, can refresh their memory and solidify their technique by checking out John Hedgecoe.

You can take a short course at most any CUNY college or the longer course at NYI in New York City. Any photography or art class will help you improve your show, especially when using minimal equipment.

The Herbalife Extravaganza Events 2010

The Good News About The Extravaganza Events, 2010-2011

2010 saw Herbalife celebrating their 30th anniversary, and to mark the occasion the world famous Herbalife Extravaganza events got bigger, better and louder! If you went to one of the Herbalife Extravaganza events, or you are planning on attending one of the upcoming events in 2011, then this article is the perfect companion!

The Extravaganzas are intended to unite Herbalife Distributors all over the world, and motivate them to push themselves further, and achieve their potential. Influential figures from the company will address the conference, and individual Distributors will get the chance to meet with others and tell of their success stories.

The events are also used to remember founder and former CEO Mark Hughes, ten years on from his tragic death. The tone at the events was one of celebrating his life and achievements, and remembering him as an influential and inspiring figure. These moments tended to be very poignant and evoked strong emotions on the stage and in the audience.

The main aim of the Extravaganzas is always to focus on the future, however, and the path that Herbalife hopes to take in the next decade. Speeches from people like Geri Cvitanovich took place at the Los Angeles Extravaganza, and she aimed to show Distributors the way forward. Cvitanovich was one of Herbalife's first ever Distributors, and is often referred to as 'the mother of Herbalife'. She addressed the crowds on the topic of 'Philosophies of Success'.

The Bad News About The Events

The down side to these events, however, is that their effects on the Distributors are often very short lived, and once the buzz and the adrenaline has worn off, the Distributor returns home and continues to make the same mistakes that they have always been making. Often there is so much emphasis on hype, that the substance is neglected somewhat.

You need to leave the Extravaganza feeling motivated and psyched, but you also need to leave with the confidence and the ability to implement improvements in your business that will make the whole event worthwhile. Ultimately, if you walk away from the event and into the same problems you were facing in your business before it, then the whole experience will have been worthless.

So if you have attended, or are going to attend, an Extravaganza event this year, then be sure to make the most of it, and use it as a turning point in your business.

Stand Up Comedy - A Thriving Platform in Nigerian Entertainment

Going back to the 80's era, a few sitcom programmes were aired on TV such as Basi & Co, Second chance, The New Masquerade, Koko Close, which thrilled the Nigerian viewers, especially Lagosians with various hilarious episodes. Sitcom was definitely "it". However, one man decided to take the bull by the horn and introduce stand up comedy to the Nigerian populace. Opa Benson's, "Nite of a thousand laughs" which made its debut on to the entertainment scene on October 1st 1995, made the desired impact, which some doubting Thomases never believed could happen. It became a regular event with its acceptability gaining more grounds over time.

Various comedians came together under this platform to reel out rib cracking jokes. However, Tee- A (Babatunde Adewale), decided to take comedy to a higher dimension and was the first to stage a one man comedy show in the country, with the slogan "Live N Naked". Other comedians seeing the endless possibilities such individual shows created followed suit. Ayo Makun's "A.Y Live", Bright Okpocha's "Basket mouth uncensored", Julius Agwu's "Crack ya ribs" have become regular shows. Comedians such as Owen gee, Koffi, Gordons, I go die, Teju baby face, Gbenga Adeyinka the first, Basorge Tara jnr have graced their events.

On an annual basis, new comedians on the block are inducted into the comedy world to join the old members. They proudly refer to themselves as "Comedians of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, with Alleluya Atuyota Akporobomeriere a.k.a Ali Baba as their Grand commander in chief. A few females have carved niches for themselves in this male dominating field such as Princess, Mandy, Lepacious Bose, and Helen Paul a.k.a tatafo. Ayo Makun, beside his regular stand up comedy event has gone a step further in his noble quest to discover young talented comedians seeking the opportunity to jump start a potential stand up comedy career. His monthly talent show coupled with his TV programme "The A.Y.show" has witnessed young people coming into the field. Bumi Davies (though not a comedian) organises the "Stand up Nigeria" monthly stand up comedy show which entertains Nigerians as well.

Fame and fortune have accompanied these comedians with some being engaged as comperes in corporate/social events, and also endorsing companies products by way of adverts for eg Hollandia Milk (Ali Baba, Julius Agwu), and Glo ( Basket mouth). Corporate bodies even sponsor these stand up comedy shows. A better life has been guaranteed for comedians who possess the laughter medicine and are skilled in administering sufficient dosages of it to the audience. Besides the creeping threat of re-cycled jokes which some comedians are kicking against, and the need for other states to become beneficiaries of the laughter sphere, stand up comedy has not done badly in the Nigerian entertainment circuit and with certitude is here to stay!

Setting Up a Home Entertainment System - What Is the Best 60" LCD TV?

When you begin looking for 60 inch LCD TV's, you will find these are normally grouped in the 55 inch and over category. These are the most expensive sets around and usually offer a rear projector unlike the smaller sets at least for those with a less expensive price tag.

Before you just rush out and purchase one of the name brands you find on a review, you should learn if this is the set that will work best in your home. First, a 60 inch may not be exactly what you need. To get the best viewing experience from a 60 inch set all those watching will need to sit at least 20 feet from the screen. The distance for optimal viewing is one-third the size of the set, which in this case would be 20 feet. You may have to rethink the size if all the seats cannot be placed 20 feet away in the room you have chosen for your entertainment system.

The best rated name brands for 60 inch LCD HDTV's include Sharp, Samsung, Sony, and LG. The best way to find the one that fits your home is by checking out the features as well as the price tags. For the Sharp the cost ranges from $1,500 to $2,200, the Samsung $1,600 to $2,500, the Sony $1,800 to $2,300, and the LG $1,700 to $2,600.

The best way to learn which brand is perfect is by visiting a retail store that offers various brands and checking out the images from different distances and angles. Once you know which set you desire, search online for the best deals available.

50 Ways to Save Money During a Recession

Let's face it. An economic crisis is no time to have money troubles. But, most of us can't help it. We work hard and try to live the life we want. Sometimes the cards are not dealt in our favor. Even if we have picked up some personal finance lessons along the way, we still seem stuck in mud. We have become blind sighted by our current economic crisis, and need to adjust our situation to live as frugally as possible in order to make what we have last.

Now we may not be able to sell our SUV or home in the next month or two, but there are some alternative ideas to help cushion the economic blow to your wallet.

1 - Buy generic versus brands. Branded items, like Cheerios, Charmin, Christian Dior, are so ingrained in our conscious as superior that we forget that other items exist. Unfortunately, we also forget the impact on our wallets. By starting to buy generic items we can start to see savings of $25 or more on a shop

2 - Rethink entertainment. Instead of buying $10 a piece movie tickets or spending $5 at the video store, consider joining Netflix, where you can download free movies to your computer or get several movies delivered to your door for the cost of less than two movies tickets, or consider other forms of cheap entertainment. $40 a month

3 - Downsize the dinner options. It feels almost luxurious to go out for dinner, knowing others have prepared a delicious meal so you don't have to. And it may seem one meal won't kill you but saving $10 by eating at home or skipping the $5 appetizers or saving $5 on tips with counter service can easily add up to $200 to $300 for the entire month.

4 - Dump cable TV. I have eliminated cable a long time ago, and just rely on Internet service. Not having TV may seem hard at first, but the result has been a life changer for me. I am more creative, like writing this blog, and have more free time to pursue the things I want to do. For $50 of savings a month, I can make it without the boob tube.

5 - Re-examine insurance. While health insurance for some is a must have, there are supplementary insurance you might pay that may not have a pressing need at this moment. Talk to your insurance professional to see what costs can be reduced or eliminated.

6 - Kid's allowance. Don't let them push you around. Yes, you want to give them the best, but in order to genuinely secure a better future for them, determine what is important to them now and what is important to their future.

7 - Electricity. During the summers and winters, this bill can get mighty large. Call your local utility company and ask them what steps you can take to cut your electricity bill. Switching to CFC bulbs (twirly bulbs) is a good start, but more of your electric bill will come from A/C, heat, hot water, the dryer and that new plasma TV you bought.

8 - Credit Cards. You can't stop making credit card payments, but at least you can call them to negotiate better rates. Use some of the credit card offers to help negotiate a better rate. $20-$40 or more a month on $10,000 balance

9 - Carpooling/Telecommuting/Bike or Walk to work - All these options can equate to saving a weekly $50 tank of gas, reduce wear and tear, and decrease potential maintenance costs.

10 - Cell versus home phone. Decide which is needed more and eliminate the other. If you can, I would consider eliminating the home phone because there are cheaper options like Skype for home telephone services. And if your phone company won't give you Internet access without having local phone, give high-speed cable from your cable company a try. For the light computer users, trying going to a free WiFi area or the library, and get connected there.

11 - Ask the boss to go corporate casual or just casual. Wearing casual clothes may not only be more durable and last longer, but you can also skip the pricey dry cleaning bill

12 - Cancel Memberships. If you have gym memberships you don't use or memberships to organizations you don't go to, cancel them. Unless you use these types of memberships weekly and it helps you to focus or acts as a personal getaway, take the opportunity to consider alternatives, like jogging, biking, etc.

13 - Storage Facility? Do you have a storage facility that you use for your junk? Sell it and then cancel the storage unit. A recent WSJ article says people who use a facility with short-term intentions end up keeping them for 5 years. $100 month

14 - House cleaning/pool service/lawn service/pest control. Can you do any of these services on your own? Borrow a lawn mower or pool brush from your neighbor if you have too. $25 or more a month

15 - Sell your stuff. Unless it may be super valuable for eBay, have a garage sale or post your items on Craigslist. Sure you won't get top dollar in this environment, but you may something

16 - Rent out a room. There are plenty of folks who need a simple place to stay, and renting out a room maybe a good short-term way to raise money. But before you do, I highly recommend preparing a few hurdles for any prospective tenant like a criminal check, a credit check and a rental history check, along with reading a few good books on renting out to a tenant or calling a licensed real estate agent for help. Without the right preparation and legal documents, this too becomes a legal or financial nightmare.

17 - Renegotiate your mortgage. You may or may not have any money you can refinance, but you can definitely talk to your bank or a mortgage broker about lowering your rate. Although you may incur additional costs, a lower rate may offset them if you can get a significant drop in your rate.

18 - Private versus Public School. If you are paying monthly for private school, you can either put your kid in public school or renegotiate a lower tuition based on your changing financial situation

19 - Beer/Colas/Coffees. These beverage items are the real cost killer when you add it up. Your $4 lattes, $4 beer or twice a day $2 soda or $2 bottled waters add up to $120 a month alone. Tap water is free and healthier for you.

20 - Use coupons. As goofy and "grandma" as it sounds, clipping coupons still works. Sunday newspapers or popular coupon sites are still great sources for coupons.

21 - Change you supermarket. As recent Wall Street Journal article compared several well-known supermarkets chains to a Wal-Mart Supercenter on the exact same food items, and found Wal-Mart to be significantly cheaper. Savings: $15 or more on full grocery shop.

22 - Haircuts. While Supercuts and Hair Cuttery are a great start for cheap haircuts, I can usually find a local barber charging even less. Since they don't need to pay royalty fees or franchise fees, they can charge a few bucks less. If you are brave enough to do it on your own, go for it.

23 - Dog food. It may be tempting to go for the cheaper brand, but changing a dog's diet is not healthy for them. Instead, buy the "Costco" size and store in a cool, dry and bug free place.

24 - Pet Medications. I use heartworm and flea medication every month for my dog, Rudy. I order from an Australian company, Petshed.com. They are cheaper for the flea medication and they also offer a generic medication for heartworm prevention. Here are also other things you can do for Fido.

25 - Skip Lotto. In tough times, more people play the lotto lowering your odds of winning, which is pretty low to begin with. If you must, once is enough.

26 - Dental Care. Teeth cleanings are a must, especially if I have to look at you. But taking properly taking care of your teeth will help to keep future costs and recommended visits down. Keep in mind; most times cleaning are done by the hygienist, not the dentist, so your costs shouldn't be more than $50. I can usually find some specials in the local paper.

27 - Gift cards or cash, instead of gifts. Give a gift card instead of a gift, or better yet, give cash and avoid the transaction fee. You will keep yourself from spending more than you should. If you do decide to buy a gift card, make sure the gift cards aren't store specific either. While Uncle Fred loves Home Depot, he may need to pay some bills or get food instead.

28 - Canceling certain newspapers. Think about canceling the daily paper, and just have the Sunday paper delivered. The Sunday newspaper can be a goldmine for coupons, and use the online version for the rest of the week.

29 - Downsize the department store. Target, Wal-Mart and other stores can offer substantial savings to those who are in need of clothes. You would be surprised what great stuff they have, but pay attention to those return policies. Goodwill or other consignment shops can also provide some valuable treasures. But, purchase only what you need. Cheap doesn't mean free for all.

30 - Spend time with the kids. If you don't spend time with the kids, they will want to spend time with their friends at the mall spending your money.

31 - Washer/Dryer. Use cold only for washing clothes, and hang dry what you can. The hot water and the dryer can get pretty expensive to run.

32 - Electronics. Shut down your computer and unplug electronics when they are not in use. Surprisingly, electronics still drain electricity even when they are off. This includes cell phone chargers, too.

33 - Car Repairs. Having to repair your car when you are already tight on money is no fun. Here are some things I have done to bring down the cost: (1) most mechanics will offer a free diagnostic, (2) call at least 3 other mechanics with the specifics of the problem and ask for a quote on the labor (you'd be surprised the difference in price), (3) ask about using after market parts or bring your own parts and (4) don't be forced into doing something you don't want.

34 - Be aware of ATM fees. A recent trip to an ATM machine costs $3, plus what my bank charges me. Fortunately, I use a discount broker that covers this cost on both ends. If you are not so lucky, find convenient banks to where you normally get funds or just draw out a little more than usual and keep most hidden at home. Replenish as needed.

35 - Pricing out gas. Be cognizant of the differences in gas prices. While a penny may not make a difference, 20 cents for a 20 gallon tank saves $4 every time. Use Costco, Wal-Mart, and sites like Gas Price Watch to help spot the lowest cost stations.

36 - Need to do some traveling? Use price aggregators sites like Kayak or Trax.com (my favorite) to find lower fares for flights, hotels and car rentals.

37 - Negotiate. When was the last time you tried to negotiate on price? Start with smaller objects, and graduate to hotel rooms and other services or products you buy. If you talk to the right person, you can negotiate almost anything.

38 - Watch the "stupid" fees. These can come from returning videos late to overdrawing your balance to overdue books. Take a moment to figure out what you normally do wrong to cause fees and setup a simple system like using "Post Its" to correct your habits.

39 - Stop the Catalogs. Junk mail, like catalogs, can entice even the ever meager into a full-blown impulse purchase; get rid of the temptations.

40 - Quite Smoking. What a great reason to kick the habit! It costs too much, and your insurance premiums go up because of it.

41 - Re-examine last year's taxes. If you have the time and gumption, there may have been a few deductions you may have missed. If they are large enough, the government may owe you money.

42 - Walk-In Clinic. For less serious emergencies or injuries, a Walk-In Clinic may offer the same service as a hospital with less cost. But first, see what the local clinic is able to do and not do. Then, take notice of their hours of operation so when an emergency comes up, you can make the right choice. Some pharmacy chains like CVS now have nurse practitioners who can diagnose and prescribe, at lower rates.

43 - Challenge your property assessment. Since the values of homes have gone down in the last few years, you may be able to challenge the city or county on your property taxes. Do some research to see if this is plausible, and then contact your municipality. Weigh your options.

44 - Moving can be a headache, but it doesn't have to be expensive. You may want to consider alternatives like U-Haul, Penske or Budget Truck. Call all three and negotiate between them. Once a quote is secured, contact a local personnel service that specializes in manual labor to help with the move.

45 - Re-shop for car insurance and homeowner's insurance. Consider switching carriers. I switched to Geico and didn't have to change my deductible at all. I saved $40 a month. In addition, talk to your agent about alternatives to your current homeowner's insurance.

46 - Larger grocery shops. Going to the grocery store once or twice a month will force you to buy only what you need and reduce your urge for impulse buys (outside of dairy, of course). Always make a list before you go.

47 - Use the library. Depending on your location, this can be a great place for books, DVDs and CDs. Some smaller libraries are able to broaden their reach and thereby your selection with other regional libraries. Keep that in mind to find more of what your want.

48 - Go on a diet. I am not talking about joining an expensive diet program, but check a few books out of the library and educate yourself. Diets usually mean less costly food, or sometimes just less food consumption in general, which translates to less out of your pocket.

49 - If you must buy something, use a site that compares prices, like Pricegrabber, Pricescan, Bizrate, Nextag, Shopping.com, eBay and Froogle. One neat site I like is Priceprotectr.com. This site helps you make sure you made a great deal by informing you if your item drops in price up to 30 days after purchase. Price adjustments are good not only for online items, but brick and motor retailers often offer adjustments for many items they sell like clothes or tools for a limited period of time.

50 - Try to fix it yourself first. I never started out being great a something, like fixing the computer, changing the spark plugs, or a number of other things I picked up along the way. But I surprise myself when I first learn how to do these things from a "How To" book or YouTube video. Obviously, you want to start small and simple to help build your skills and confidence. Whenever an opportunity presents itself, always take a moment to consider the possibility.

Can you think you of anything (outside of selling your house or car) that can save you money right away? Please let me know so I can grow the list. And if you have saved some money from some things on this list, let me know as well.

6 Extreme Weather Events in London

1. Tornado, 1091

On 30 October 1091 a tornado swept through the city which destroyed hundreds of houses and a number of churches including St Mary le Bow where four rafters from the roof were driven twenty feet into the ground by the force of the wind. Astonishingly, contemporary chronicles report that only two people were killed.

2. The Great Storm, 1703

The worst storm in London's history struck on the night of 26-27 November 1703. According to contemporary reports, 'practically all the roofs in London were stripped of their tiles' and the leaden roofs of many churches, including Westminster Abbey, were 'rolled up like skins of parchment'. Defoe, who wrote an account of the storm, revealed that 'nobody durst quit their tottering habitations for it was worst without' and claimed that many people were convinced that the end of the world had come.

3. Earthquake, 1750

On 8 March 1750 the city was awoken at about 5.30 in the morning by the shock of an earthquake. According to a contemporary report, 'a noise was heard resembling the roaring of a great piece of ordnance, fired at a considerable distance, and then instantly the houses reeled, first sinking, as it were, to the south, and then to the north, and with a quick return to the centre'. In the Thames the water was so agitated that fish were seen to leap half a yard above its surface. Many preachers were eager to seize upon the event as an indication of God's wrath with a sinful city. Charles Wesley proclaimed that 'of all the judgments which the righteous God inflicts on sinners here, the most dreadful and destructive is an earthquake' and that 'this He has lately brought on our part of the earth, and thereby alarmed our fears, and bid us "Prepare to meet our God!"'

4. Floods, 1928

The last time that central London flooded was in 1928. On 6 and 7 January heavy rainfall, a rapid snow melt and a spring tide combined to cause the Thames to break its banks at several points. A section of embankment near Lambeth Bridge collapsed and water rushed into nearby houses, drowning fourteen people.

5. Great Smog, 1952

Fog has long been a regular hazard in London. Accounts of its peculiar density date back centuries. Often it was made worse by the burning of coal. In the seventeenth century the diarist John Evelyn wrote of the 'hellish and dismall cloud of sea-coale' that lay over the city. However, in the late nineteenth century and the first half of the twentieth, the combination of fog, household fires burning coal and the emissions from factory chimneys produced the dreadful 'peasoupers' which were a serious threat to the health of Londoners. The worst was in December 1952. Transport was brought almost to a standstill as visibility reduced to a matter of inches rather than feet. At Sadler's Wells a performance had to be abandoned because the fog in the auditorium made it impossible for the audience to see and the cast to continue. Approximately 4000 people died as a direct result of bronchial and cardiovascular illnesses exacerbated by the smog but many other deaths may have been related to its effects. The consequences of the Great Smog were so dire that legislation in the form of Clean Air Acts were passed to limit smoke emissions of all kinds and the London smog was largely consigned to history.

6. The Great Storm of 1987

Famously unpredicted by the Met Office, the great storm that swept the south of England on the night of 15/16 October 1987 had devastating effects in London. Gusts exceeding 80 knots were recorded at the London Weather Centre and at Heathrow and Gatwick Airports. Nearly a third of the trees in Kew Gardens, many of them rare and valuable specimens were uprooted or destroyed. The storm was the worst to hit the capital since 1703.

Entertainment - Casinos

Many people will read this and say, "Casinos, entertainment? How are casinos considered entertainment? All you do is go there to gamble". Well, yes and no. The truth is, casinos are one of the biggest forms of entertainment for many people and it's not just the gambling itself.

Yes, it is true that for the majority of people they go to a casino for one reason and one reason only, to gamble and win lots of money, though most go home broke. But that's another story. And let's be honest, a casino is loaded with tons of ways to lose your money, from Blackjack to Poker to you name it. You can't walk more than a few feet without bumping into some kind of gaming table. And for some, this would be entertainment enough.

But there is a lot more to a casino than just the gaming tables.

Take a look around, especially if you are a normal red blooded male. Those ladies walking around serving you your complimentary drink aren't exactly dressed for the outdoors or the supermarket. Many a man goes to the casino, not so much to drink and gamble but to look at all the barely dressed ladies that are walking around. Miss USA has nothing on some of these women.

And yes, there are the drinks too. If you stay at a table and gamble a certain amount of money in a certain period of time, most casinos will comp you a drink or two, meaning you don't have to pay for them. That may not be your idea of entertainment, but when they start treating you like a celebrity, you feel more than just entertained. You feel like a million bucks, even if you're going broke.

But if real entertainment is what you're looking for, casinos have that as well. Most casinos are located in very fancy hotels and in these hotels not every room is set up for gambling purposes. There are large rooms where shows are put on, usually featuring some kind of performer. The shows are mostly during certain hours of the night. This way people have all day to gamble and then when they've had their fill of the tables, can take in a show.

But let's be honest. If you're going to a casino for entertainment, you're going for the gambling. All those other things you can get anywhere else. But that's what makes casinos so different and unusual. They combine so many different aspects of entertainment into one location. It's almost like going to a carnival or a circus where you can see a number of different acts and all forms of entertainment. Well, that's really what a casino is as you have your gambling, the girls, the drinks and the shows. If you get tired of doing one thing there is always something else that you can do, even within the gambling itself. Tired of watching that wheel spin around at the roulette table? No problem. Just head on over to the craps table and get your hands on a pair of dice. The possibilities are endless.

Who says casinos aren't a form of entertainment?

10 Simple Things Anyone Can Do to Save Over $200 a Month Starting Right Now

As a life insurance sales person I often have families tell me thanks but I just can't afford it. I decided to see what I could do to save $200 a month from my budget. I then took it step further and found 10 things anyone could do to save money each and every month.

I eat out at least 4 meals a week while I am running from appointment to appointment. I love Diet cola and drink it with every meal even breakfast. By getting water instead of Diet Cola I can save about $8 a week or $32 a month. I also drink a 12 pack of diet cola at home every day. By cutting back to a 6 pack of Diet cola Daily I can save an additional $8 a week or $32 Monthly. Just by cutting back on Diet Soda I have saved $64 a month.

I love cheeseburgers and 3 or 4 times a month I go to a fast food restaurant and get a double cheeseburger combo for $5. By cutting back to a single combo for $3 I can save an additional $7 a month. The nice thing about this of course is that it is much healthier then a Double Cheeseburger.

I often go out to eat with my Girlfriend. I have an Entertainment card that is available in most major cities. This card can be used for Buy 1 get 1 free meals at 100's of local area restaurants. By using an Entertainment card for 1 Lunch and 1 Dinner each month I can save an additional $20 a Month. So far by changing a few of my eating habits I have not only saved $91 a month but I have improved my health at the same time.

I have a Gym membership that I pay $20 a month for. I don't use the gym except for maybe the treadmill once or twice a month when the weather is bad. By walking at the Mall instead of the Gym I can save $20 a Month.

I recently got an all in one Messaging solution for about $25 a month. This solution comes bundled with a send and receive fax capability. I was able to eliminate my home fax machine and save myself an additional $15 a month.

I had a land line phone that I was paying over $50 a Month for. I was able to switch to Vonage an internet VOIP provider and save $25 a month. Every Month My cell phone would go over by an average of just over 200 minutes by changing my cell phone plan to one that allowed more minutes I was able to save $50 a month.

Looking at the saving so far I have saved $91 by changing my eating habits, $90 a month by changing my Phone usage and an additional $20 by walking at the Mall instead of the Treadmills at the Gym. So far my total savings is $201 a month

I also saved $25 a month by getting rid of 2 Premium Cable TV services and an additional $10 a Month by asking my Cable provider to bundle my Cable TV and Internet.

Hopefully this will give you some ideas on how you can save money on your monthly budget. Here are a few more

1 - Change the Thermostat.

By raising the thermostat 1 or 2 Degrees in the summer and lowering it 1 or 2 degrees in the winter you may notice a big difference in your Energy Bill

2 - Shop the Cell Phone Competition.

When your contract is up shop the competition. I have a friend who has 200 more minutes and extra features like free calls from her Favorite 10 for less money.

3 - Get the Family plan

Many people can save money by combining all the family members into a big family plan for their sell phone usage.

4 - Is cable your only choice?

Quite frequently it is possible to get Satellite TV cheaper then cable.

5 - Give up that expensive coffee

Many people drink 1 or 2 cups of that $4 coffee daily. By giving up 2 cups a week you can save over $30 a Month

6 - Find the Early bird.

Many Restaurants have Early bird dinners that can save $20 or more per family.

7 - Take Out

I know of 1 Family that saves $10 a week on the cost of Soda by taking out from their favorite sandwich shop as opposed to eating in.

8 - Rent a Video

The cost of the average Movie for a Family of 4 with Popcorn and Soda is well over $50 nowadays. You can rent a Video, Make Microwave Popcorn and order in a Pizza and still have $20 left over.

9 - Try a Free Museum or Zoo

In St Louis the Choices for fun free entertainment are endless. We have the Zoo, Sculpture Park, History Museum and the Muny just to name a few. Check out your Sunday paper for activities you can do for free.

10 - Take a Walk

Most big cities have areas where you have to pay for parking. Often free parking is available a block or 2 away, By getting there a few minutes early you can find free parking nearby and get the health benefits of a nice walk.

November Astrology With Full Moon in Taurus and New Moon in Scorpio

What is your interest in astrology all about? Have you ever thought about it? I believe you have a genuine interest in deepening your self knowledge and inner wisdom and ultimately you want to grow. I am sure you also like the practical applications astrology offers to make your life easier and more fulfilling by being more in alignment with the universal forces.

For me astrology is more of an art form then a science. It is grounded in the ancient science of correlating the position of the stars to our worldly living but it is such an intricate, complex system with so many layers of truth and revelations that is has to become exalted to an art adding the intuitive mind and the dimension of the wisdom of the divine soul to form a whole and meaningful picture. All the integration of all the different aspects and angles to look at a person's chart or any moment in time is happening in the mind of the astrologer or student of astrology and depends on the person's inner wisdom and maturity.

Astrology is a journey, a path of wisdom and spiritual unfolding if undertaken consciously for the growth of your soul. While I am allowing my blog to change and assume different forms like the changing from a weekly to a monthly format, I like to play with new perspectives and putting the spot light onto different aspects of astrology without getting to technical. I hope you will enjoy this journey with me!

Sun in Scorpio Stirs the Pot With the Sun still in Scorpio and the upcoming New Moon in Scorpio on November 5-6 we are still stirring in deep and murky waters. The Full Moon of November will be at the very end of Taurus and with that likely help us to integrate the Scorpio Taurus axes just before the Sun moves into Sagittarius on November 22. As we know one sign is always opposed but also balanced out by the opposing sign in the zodiac. Both complete and enhance each other.

For example with Scorpio we have a very complex water sign which is intrigued by deep analysis of inner psyche content with all its shadow aspects of the human nature. Pluto rules the Scorpion underworld and forces us into deep processes of inner transformation reinventing ourselves. With the Sun in Scorpio the energy is intense, maybe heavy and you don't get away with skirting the issues as you might be able to do in other month of the year. Summer is over, the weather is turning colder, the days shorter and we have a taste of the fact that winter is upon us soon. I already saw Christmas decoration at Macy.

Pluto in Capricorn Challenges Our Routines

Pluto, the ruler of Scorpio in the beginning of Capricorn is bound to stir things up in society, showing us the abuse of power, misdemeanors for the sake of power and greed as we had to face with the new development in the real estate market exposing the scams of money making vehicles created by financial institutions and banks. With Pluto just beginning his journey through Capricorn this is just the beginning. As hard as we might all feel the impact on melting down of our already deeply wounded economy I believe the truth about what doesn't work anymore for the good of all people is very much needed.

The high potential of Pluto's journey through Capricorn is true responsible leadership with more commitment to the greater good. For that we still have a long way to go but with the other astrological pointers of Saturn in Libra (relationship work), Uranus Jupiter conjunction in Pisces (strengthening our faith and vision) and Chiron Neptune conjunction in Aquarius (becoming more sensitized to other people's needs) we might successfully grow in that direction.

In Pluto's world there is a lot of deep stuff going on, inner shifts in perception and inner growth needs to happen for each one of us. This is our individual place of power depending on our willingness to grow and transform beyond our current beliefs and values.

Taurus Full Moon November 21

Taurus on the other hand is representing simplicity and roots in the physical world through our senses, the needs and pleasures of our physical bodies. Taurus is very practical minded and hands on to sort out things in a pleasing way because he is ruled by Venus. With the Full Moon in Taurus we feel more relaxation and ground under our feet. We take care for things in our life, for our body and take one step at a time. With Taurus we can rebuild from the ashes Scorpio has left us with.

The Lunar Cycle from New Moon to Full Moon

The Lunar cycle is the fastest astrological cycle; we can even watch it with our naked eyes. Something new starts with every New Moon; a new theme is introduced to our collective psyche and is complemented in its evolutionary journey with the Full Moon in the opposing sign. The exposure to the theme is peaking and we have the best chance of conscious integration in the conclusion of the lunar cycle towards the next New Moon presenting us with a new theme in a new sign.

This Full Moon is at the end of the sign Taurus and with that is very much integrating Taurus energies with the sublime, more transcending overlaying qualities of Pisces ruling the last 2,5 degrees of every sign. The invitation is to integrate inner assets and qualities with outer needs for sustainability, practical intelligence affirming our love for truth and oneness of spirit. Taurus' emotional generosity and abundance can lead to feeling grateful and abundant in many different ways independent of the amount of money we have in the bank.

Four Planets Turning Direct in November- Releasing Pent Up Energy

When Planets are going retrograde there is always a sense of waiting and reassessment. When a planet is turning direct there might be a couple of days of lag time but then we are able to integrate insights and unravel seemingly stuck issues in our lives. We will move forward. This month we will gradually feel getting "unstuck" and moving into the right direction.

First Chiron turns direct on November 5 with his more detached perspective he gained in Aquarius which will be helpful in navigating the hypersensitive waters of Pisces. Neptune is following on November 6 reinforcing our need for spiritual growth and awareness. On November 18 Jupiter and Venus will turn around. Both "benefics" as we call them in astrology will bolster hope, optimism and faith into the future. We are ending the month with the Sun moving into Sagittarius on November 22 and with that we can take a deep breath and feel lighter and more buoyant.

After all the deep, hard Scorpion inner work we now turn towards expanding our horizon, looking for deeper meaning, maybe travel or teach others from what we have learned and integrated. The Sun transiting into Sagittarius starts us into a lighter tone of energy, more ease and self confidence to apply ourselves. Sagittarius is also a very passionate sign.

Be Inspired, Think Big!

With the Sun in Sagittarius we all can have benefit now from a more gregarious nature and self expression. Think about where do you want to have more passion in your life? Where do you want to learn more and expand your skills?

In your relationship? Or your professional life? In your health?

If it is in your love relationship I recommend the book from John Grey: Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus. It is such a classic and there are many more books written by him about this subject, looking at the same theme from different angles. He has a very humorous way of looking at the differences of Men and Women and makes many valid points.

If it is your professional life you want to expand and grow I have enjoyed tremendously the book from Timothy Ferriss: The 4- Hour Workweek. What an intriguing concept! This book had me spellbound from the first to the last page, which is quite unusual for me to read a whole non-fiction book that way. Usually I just pick out what seems to be of most interest for me.

If it is in your health I recommend The Astonishing Power of Emotions by Abraham-Hicks. This book talks about how we can be more in tune in with our source energy, our divine being. It talks about how our emotions are indicators for where we are in our journey towards deepening joy and well-being and how we can use them in a smart way to get there.

Gemstones Are Tools to Support Your Inner Process

In whatever area you want to grow you can use gemstones as a focal point in enhancing your intention or balancing and healing your energy field. Especially the Quartz Crystal is a wonderful tool with many applications. Or you can be more specific and support yourself more precisely with your personal healing stones based on your natal chart and your evolutionary journey of the moment.

Suggestion of the Month

Check out the documentary Water- the Great Mystery. You can live stream it on Google video for free. It profiles research about water done in Russia, Austria and other countries in the world and gives you a practical application for charging or healing the water you drink. We are water beings made 85% out of water. This movie is a truly fantastic contribution for health and balance I wish for you to enjoy. Remember your journaling as a way to connect with your deep inner wisdom as well as witnessing your inner progress.

Aloha and many blessings, Shakti.

The West Wing (DVD) Review

Premiering in September 1999, the original NBC series The West Wing built an instant cult following with its seemingly realistic weekly excursions into the inner sanctums of the White House. The series became such a hit that some pollsters claimed that certain people actually believed Jed Bartlet was the real president (although, if true, this is more of a negative reflection on the intelligence of the electorate, and not necessarily an indication of West Wing's realism). But regardless, the truth of the matter is that West Wing definitely strikes a chord with certain audiences, providing entertaining brew of action, suspense, and drama on a weekly basis...

Seasoned Hollywood actor Martin Sheen plays the lead role of President Jed Bartlet. The day-to-day affairs of Bartlet's administration are run by a number of individuals who surround him, among them are: Claudia "C.J." Cregg (Allison Janney), Josh Lyman (Bradley Whitford), Sam Seaborn (Rob Lowe), Toby Ziegler (Richard Schiff), Leo McGarry (John Spencer), and Charlie Young (Dule Hill). West Wing follows these dedicated staffers as they work extended hours behind-the-scenes to help keep the White House running smoothly. Along the way, the stress of the job and the characters' personal lives make for an interesting glimpse into what many believe is an accurate portrayal of a real-life White House administration...

The West Wing DVD offers a number of dramatic episodes including the series premiere in which we meet each of the recurring characters for the first time. The White House has their daily routine interrupted when President Bartlet falls off his bike, and Sam realizes the girl he picked in a bar the previous evening was a high-priced prostitute. Meanwhile, several members of the administration become embroiled in an ongoing feud with the "religious right," prompting President Bartlet to personally condemn a group of fundamentalists known as "The Lambs of God"... Other notable episodes from Season 1 include "The Crackpots and These Women" in which administration staffers spend their day listening to a number of crackpot, single-issue groups lobbying for federal favors, and "Take This Sabbath Day" in which President Bartlet grapples with the decision to commute the death sentence of a convicted killer following a Supreme Court ruling upholding his sentence...
