Side Show - The art form

I remember like it was yesterday. It 'was in 1986 or so I think my first day of the exhibition part of the circus. I was young and just out of school. I spent my summer on tour with the show when their house magician. If you have never seen a side show, I urge you to go check. If you have a side-show tour that is.

Stalls and the like are an art, on the edge of death. We use a dime a dozen, but no more. I am very happy if you canthe next day to find the center.

I was at the show with a working fire-eater, a sword swallower, Twist-o-girl, a girl who can bend his body in a strange way. Also on show was a block head, an act which got its start with Melvin Berkhart. The block was headed nails, screwdrivers and the like in the face. This is going in the face through the nose. this act is far from my friend Mr. Todd Robbins has done, who are invited to scatter ashes Melvinnear Coney Island by Melvin's family after his death. Todd can spend years in a row, the sideshow at Coney Island in their hey-day. Todd has now moved on and has many other shows that are wonderful. If you see an opportunity, Todd, please do so.
