Trapp Family The Real Story - Part 6 (a house in Vermont)

After the Trapp family had lived in America for some years, their reputation was well established as a singing group and they enjoyed many long and successful tour. After visiting Vermont, the Trapp decided unanimously that this was where they wanted the United States. Their home was in a state of flux with the second world war, and Vermont, green meadows and hills seemed to be the best thing for Austria. So with a small down paymentand a bank loan, Captain von Trapp and Maria bought an estate of 660 hectares, of which the buildings were in poor condition, but include the beautiful views and fertile fields for crops.

But before the family was able to build the country, their eldest sons, Rupert and Werner were designed to meet the U.S. Army in March 1943. As tensions mounted between America and Germany, had the sign of the Trapp with the FBI as foreign residents and their propertieswas inspected to ensure that they are not German spies. The only concern that officials had was the fact that table for each family member was the same thought of a black book magazine code or something in kind. Fortunately, shot the books are nothing more than the German Bibles and Trapp with their lives!

When she sang in concerts later, Mary stated that her two older sons were at war, and Americans embraced the slightly smaller group singing, as did the whole family.

During the off season, worked the Trapp family eager to build their home in Vermont properties. From sunrise until well after sunset, Captain, Maria, and their adult daughtersworked to dig a cellar without a bulldozer, lay the foundation, and build-Austria Chalet almost all by himself. Digging the basement working alone took eight long weeks, during which numerous acres of corn, berries, canned and preserved in summer vegetables. At the time that their case should begin concert tour, which had previously only completed the construction of the house just three days!

Now they were not refugees, theyofficially were immigrants in the United States, where a place among the hills of Vermont.
